The Airspeed AS.10 Oxford is a twin-engine monoplane aircraft developed and manufactured by Airspeed. It saw widespread use for training British Commonwealth aircrews in navigation, radio-operating, bombing and gunnery roles throughout the Second World War. The Oxford was developed by Airspeed during the 1930s in response to a requirement for a capable trainer aircraft that conformed with Specification T.23/36, which had been issued by the British Air Ministry. Its basic design is derived from the company's earlier AS.6 Envoy, a commercial passenger aircraft. After its maiden flight by Percy Colman on 19 June 1937, it was quickly put into production as part of a rapid expansion of the Royal Air Force (RAF) in anticipation of a large-scale conflict. The Special Hobby 1/48 Airspeed Oxford Mk I/II model kit recreates the iconic twin-engine aircraft used for pilot, navigation, and bombing training in the United Kingdom. Designed with a semi-monocoque wooden fuselage, this detailed kit accurately represents the aircraft's structure and historical significance. This kit includes high-quality features such as etched and resin parts, along with clear injection components for enhanced realism. It also offers multiple Commonwealth markings, including Air New Zealand, Royal Australian Air Force, and Air Canada, providing versatile display options. With a newly designed mold, the model captures intricate details, making it a rewarding build for aviation enthusiasts. Measuring 38 cm x 23.2 cm x 7 cm, it is a great addition to any collection, offering both historical value and an engaging assembly experience.
