The Laser HD Digital Set Top Box is a digital TV receiver that adds free-to-air HD channels to an older television, and records them to a USB drive. There is no subscription and no ongoing cost: it uses your existing TV aerial and the channels are the same free-to-air broadcasts everyone else receives.

Key features
- HD digital reception: decodes MPEG4 AVC/H.264, MPEG2 and MPEG4 broadcasts and outputs up to 1080p
- USB recording: record programmes to a USB drive of up to 750GB
- Aerial pass-through: RF IN and RF OUT let you loop the aerial on to another device
- Connects old and new: HDMI for digital TVs, plus composite (CVBS) video and stereo RCA audio for older sets
- Media playback: plays AVI video, MP3 audio and JPEG images from a USB drive
- Low running cost: 6W maximum and under 1W in standby

Giving an older TV a second life

An analogue-era television with composite inputs, or an early HD set without a built-in tuner, can still receive current digital broadcasts through this box. It sits between the aerial and the TV and handles the tuning, so the set itself does not need replacing.

Specifications

Input frequency covers 170-230MHz (VHF) and 471-860MHz (UHF) with 7MHz and 8MHz IF bandwidth. Modulation is QPSK, 16QAM and 64QAM, with an RF input level of -25 to 78dBm. Output formats are 576p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p in 4:3 or 16:9. Outputs are HDMI and CVBS, with 2 x RCA (L/R) audio. Runs on 220-240V AC at 50/60Hz. Measures 125 x 75 x 29mm and weighs 92 grams.
