THE JUAN SEBASTIAN ELCANO: SPANISH NAVAL TRAINING SHIP This vessel, launched in 1927 at Cadiz, serves as a training platform for Spain's Maritime Guards. Fourth-year naval academy cadets conduct six-month instructional cruises covering approximately 20,000 nautical miles to the Americas. The ship remains in active service today, continuing regular international voyages. Named for the Spanish explorer who assumed command of Magellan's expedition following the commander's death and completed the first circumnavigation in 1522, the Juan Sebastian Elcano carries considerable historical significance within Spanish maritime tradition. The 2021 design revision provides a modernized kit with simplified assembly suitable for entry-level naval modelers. Instructions are presented in comprehensive video and DVD formats for step-by-step guidance. The kit contains wood and plastic components, metal hardware, and associated fittings necessary for construction of the 1/250 scale model.
